Koinly Review 2026: What a Year of Solana Trading Actually Costs

Koinly prices crypto tax reports by transaction count, which makes Solana the hardest chain to budget for. We read the live pricing page, the help centre and the public bug board, then measured five tracked Solana wallets on mainnet: 26 chain events for every swap counted, and 18.2% of signatures failing.

14 min readBy uwuu team

Koinly is a crypto tax calculator that syncs your exchanges and wallets, works out your gains, and produces the forms your tax office wants. It is one of the few that will read a raw Solana public key and turn it into a Form 8949. It is also priced per transaction — and that single design decision is what decides whether Koinly costs you $49 or four figures.

Most Koinly reviews stop at the pricing table. This one goes after the number that pricing table multiplies. On 2 November 2026 we pulled the live pricing page and the help centre, read Koinly's public bug board, and then measured five real Solana trading wallets on mainnet to see how many ledger lines a year of on-chain trading actually produces. The gap between "trades I made" and "transactions Koinly bills me for" turned out to be roughly 26 to 1. If you copy trade on Solana, that ratio is your real pricing tier.

What Koinly is, in one paragraph

Koinly is a tax-reporting layer that sits on top of read-only connections to your accounts. You add a wallet by pasting a public receive address or by connecting an exchange API key; Koinly imports the history, matches transfers between your own wallets, applies a cost-basis method (FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, ACB, Shared Pool), and generates country-specific reports. Its integrations page claims 1,000+ direct integrations, 7,200+ DeFi protocols and unlimited CSV imports, and the help centre puts blockchain coverage at over 200 chains, Solana among them. The company says it serves clients in more than 140 countries and that it is self-funded with no investors.

For a Solana trader, the appeal is simple: you do not export anything. Your Solana wallet is a public key, the chain is a public ledger, and Koinly reads it. No private keys are involved, which is the same security posture as any Solana wallet tracker.

What Koinly costs in 2026

Koinly charges once per tax year, and the price is set by how many transactions that year contains. These are the figures published on koinly.io/pricing when we fetched it on 2 November 2026, alongside the caps documented in the help centre article "Tax plans":

Plan Price per tax year Transaction cap Reports
Free $0 10,000 imported None — preview only
Newbie $49 100 Form 8949, Schedule D, international
Hodler $99 1,000 Same
Trader from $199 3,000 Same
Pro not published on the pricing page 10,000, then top-ups per 1,000 Same

Three things in that table are worth slowing down for.

The Pro price is missing from the pricing page. The page shows three cards — Newbie, Hodler and a Trader card marked "from $199" for "3000+" transactions — then hands high-volume users a line that reads "Trading at serious volume? Our custom plans are built for high-frequency traders and complex portfolios." The help centre still documents a fourth plan called Pro, capped at 10,000 transactions, with an Extra Transactions add-on sold in packages of 1,000 and available only on Pro. Review sites and Koinly's own community forum have long quoted $279 for Pro and $10 per extra 1,000, but that forum answer is from August 2021 and the figure does not appear on koinly.io today. If you are above 3,000 transactions, treat your price as unquoted until you see it on your own Plans page.

The plans are one-time, not subscriptions. Each yearly plan stays valid for 10 years from purchase, you can regenerate reports as often as you like, and there is a 7-day refund window as long as you have not generated a report yet. That is genuinely better than the annual-renewal model most of this category uses.

There is an account-wide limit as well as a yearly one. This is the clause that catches active traders, and Koinly states it plainly: "All plans combined need to cover all transactions." Its own worked example is brutal for anyone who trades more this year than last — you had 2,500 transactions in 2025, bought the correct Trader plan for 2025, then did 20,000 transactions in 2026, and you still cannot download your 2025 report. There is a free margin of 1,000 transactions on the account-wide limit and nothing beyond it.

And if you go over the cap, Koinly does not degrade gracefully. The help centre lists the consequences: all calculations halt, balances become implausible, wallet syncing stops, CSV imports stop, and no reports can be generated for any year until you upgrade or delete transactions. There is no unlimited plan; Koinly says so directly.

The number Koinly bills you for is not the number of trades you made

On Solana, one trade is not one ledger line. A single memecoin swap routinely carries a compute-budget instruction, an associated-token-account creation, a wrapped-SOL wrap and unwrap, several inner transfer legs through whichever AMM the router picked, a close-account instruction to reclaim rent, and a fee. A tax importer reading the chain has to decide which of those are economic events and which are plumbing.

To size that, we sampled five wallets from the public uwuu leaderboard on 2 November 2026 using the Solana mainnet RPC. For each wallet we pulled the last 1,000 signatures to get a rate and a failure rate, then sampled 20 successful transactions each — 100 transactions in total — and counted instructions and token-balance legs.

Wallet Swaps counted (30d) Signatures/day Failed Instructions per tx Token legs moved
psykø 247 78 4.5% 20.6 4.75
gr3g 383 387 23.5% 17.6 6.85
OGAntD 124 111 2.3% 17.1 3.10
Casino 364 460 59.7% 17.35 4.00
Publix 309 198 0.8% 11.6 3.05

Across all 100 sampled transactions, the mean was 16.85 instructions per successful transaction. 63 of 100 opened or initialised a token account, 36 closed one, and 40 touched wrapped SOL. Across all 5,000 signatures, 908 failed — 18.2% — and a failed transaction still burns a fee. The mean fee across the sample was 45,142 lamports, about 0.000045 SOL, which sounds like nothing until you multiply it by the signature counts in that table. If fees are new to you, our breakdown of Solana transaction fees covers where each lamport goes.

Now the ratio that matters. Those five wallets logged 1,427 swaps in 30 days on our leaderboard. Extrapolating their measured signature rates over the same 30 days gives about 37,020 signatures — roughly 26 chain events for every trade we counted.

Both numbers are honest and they measure different things. Our leaderboard counts swaps inside tracked token positions and discards positions under $50 of absolute PnL as noise. The chain counts every signature: transfers, approvals, housekeeping, failed attempts. A tax importer necessarily sits closer to the second number than the first, and Koinly's billing sits somewhere between them, because Koinly merges related transactions and filters spam before anything becomes billable.

How far between? Koinly's own users have measured it. A feature request opened on 28 July 2026, titled "Count Logical Transactions Instead of Every Blockchain Component", describes importing the same Solana wallet into Koinly and a competitor with no manual edits: "One service identified approximately 9,766 transactions, while Koinly identified approximately 21,666. After many hours of merging transactions and removing spam transactions, I was able to reach a similar transaction count in Koinly." That is a 2.2x difference on the metric the invoice is calculated from, on one wallet, resolved only by hours of manual work.

We did not buy a plan and import these five wallets, so we cannot publish a Koinly billable count for them. What we can say is that the raw material a Solana trader hands a tax tool is an order of magnitude larger than their trade count, and that Koinly's own user base reports the merge step leaving a lot on the table.

What 447 tracked Solana wallets would land on

The uwuu leaderboard API is public. On 2 November 2026 it listed 527 tracked wallets, 447 of which made at least one swap in the previous 30 days, for 232,753 swaps between them. The distribution is extremely skewed: the median active wallet made 90 swaps in 30 days, the 75th percentile made 438, the 90th made 1,375, and the busiest made 19,545.

Hold those rates steady for twelve months and compare them against Koinly's caps — counting swaps only, which is the most generous possible reading, since it ignores deposits, withdrawals, transfers and every extra ledger leg:

  • 78.7% of active tracked wallets would pass the 100-transaction Newbie cap. The $49 plan is not a trader plan.
  • 51.5% would pass 1,000 and need Trader or above.
  • 34.0% would pass 3,000 and need Pro.
  • 18.3% would pass 10,000 and need Pro plus top-ups in blocks of 1,000.

The median active wallet annualises to about 1,080 swaps, which clears the Hodler cap on swaps alone before a single transfer or token-account event is counted. This is the arithmetic nobody publishes: on Solana, a perfectly ordinary memecoin trading year does not fit in a $99 plan.

It also means the headline "from $49" is accurate and close to meaningless for the audience reading a review of Solana tax tooling. The honest version is that your plan is chosen by your router and your spam exposure as much as by your trading.

What Koinly actually imports from a Solana wallet

Koinly reads Solana from a public key and auto-imports SOL transfers, SPL tokens, NFTs and most DeFi activity — but several of the things Solana traders use most need manual work. Koinly publishes this itself in a help article called "Common issues with Solana", last revised in 2026. The specifics:

  • Jupiter swaps — imported automatically. Ordinary Jupiter swap routing is the well-supported path.
  • Jupiter Limit Orders V1 — imported; the reserve-wallet funding is skipped and only fills are recorded.
  • Limit Orders V2 and DCA V2 — not importable automatically, because the orders are set up off-chain to resist sandwiching, so the detail is not on-chain. Koinly's documented workaround is to add your vault address as a separate Solana wallet and manually merge every single fill.
  • Jupiter perps — imported as untagged deposits and withdrawals; manual adjustment required.
  • Staking — either tag pool labels by hand, or switch on "Import staking rewards per epoch", which skips stake and unstake transactions and imports epoch rewards as tagged deposits. Worth reading next to our guide on Solana staking.
  • Concentrated liquidity — Raydium CLMM, Orca CLMM, Meteora DAMM2 and DLMM are supported via a synthetic LP token; position managers such as HawkFi may import incompletely.
  • Liquidity pools — Orca, Raydium, both Meteora variants and PumpFun AMM are auto-tagged, with over 100 protocols across all chains.
  • Compressed NFTs — Bubblegum and Mpl import automatically.

Fees deserve their own note. Koinly adds a trading fee to the cost basis of the asset you receive and, when the fee is paid in crypto, treats it as a disposal of that crypto with its own gain or loss. On Solana every priority fee is paid in SOL, so every swap you make is also a small SOL disposal. Koinly does not let you turn that behaviour off.

Koinly's public bug board, read as a Solana roadmap

Koinly runs its feedback portal in public, which makes it the most honest source of information about the product. On 2 November 2026 the five boards held 6,338 posts: 2,068 feature requests, 1,837 integration requests, 1,436 API/CSV issues, 946 bug reports and 51 mobile app bugs. Anyone can read them without an account, and the Solana entries are specific:

  • "Solana API: Better spam detection" — opened 8 December 2023, 75 votes, status planned as of today. Nearly three years in the planned column.
  • "Solana staking support" — opened 5 April 2022, 204 votes, status in progress. The epoch-rewards toggle documented in the help centre looks like the delivery of it, which tells you the board statuses lag the product.
  • "Solana API: Memecoins with SOL symbol are imported as native SOL" — opened 12 December 2024, marked complete on 26 February 2025. The workaround while it was open was to unlock the edit fields and retype the token on every affected trade.
  • "Phoenix Trade (Solana DEX)" — opened 7 October 2026, still open, so Phoenix is an integration request rather than an integration.
  • "Introduce a lifetime pricing model for Koinly" — opened 14 December 2021, 91 votes, still open.
  • "Improve Koinly pricing strategy for trades" — opened 28 July 2025, 15 votes, status planned.

Read those dates together and a pattern appears that no affiliate review will tell you: Solana-specific complaints get fixed when they are narrow and reproducible, and the broad ones about counting and pricing sit for years. That is a reasonable way to run a backlog. It is also exactly the category of problem a high-frequency Solana trader has.

Spam tokens are a billing problem, not just an annoyance

Transactions you mark as spam do not count toward your plan limit, which makes spam filtering the cheapest lever you have on your Koinly bill. Koinly documents this directly: deleted transactions, most dust rewards, spam-tagged transactions and merged transactions either drop out of the billable count or collapse into one.

The problem is volume. Any wallet that has traded memecoins is an airdrop target, and a commenter on the Solana spam request describes receiving "80 spam NFTs a day (compared to 2 or 3 real transactions)", back-dated so they reappear days after being cleared. Koinly applies global spam rules server-side on top of whatever you tag yourself, and the flagship "Scam/Spam token removal and blacklisting" request — 713 votes, opened 3 November 2021 — is marked complete. But the Solana-specific detection request is still only planned.

Two practical consequences. First, before you buy any plan, work through the spam tagging and the merge suggestions, because the billable count is what you are purchasing against and it is movable. Second, do not mark a token as spam if you actually traded it — Koinly deletes every transaction involving a token you tag, which silently removes real disposals from your report. If you are unsure whether a token in your history was ever real, a Solana rug check is the faster way to find out than guessing in the tax tool.

Form 1099-DA, and why your Solana swaps are not on it

The 2026 filing season is the first where US traders reconcile broker-reported figures against their own records, and that reconciliation is now the loudest theme on Koinly's board. Posts from 2026 include "Option to Match 1099-DA" (10 votes, open), "Support for proceeds per exchange for comparison to 1099-DA reports", "Coinbase advanced fee rebates need to be added to proceeds, or 1099-DA will not match Koinly 8949" (11 votes, complete), and a 35-vote open request to extend the cost-basis migration option to all jurisdictions so that wallet-based cost tracking can be enabled for a 2025 US return.

None of that changes the core fact for an on-chain trader, which we worked through box by box in our guide to Form 1099-DA: no DEX swap appears on a 1099-DA. A custodial broker files the form; a Solana AMM does not. So if your trading is on-chain, nobody is sending the IRS a figure to match — your records are the only record, and the wallet-by-wallet basis rule makes keeping them properly a requirement rather than a nicety. That is precisely the job Koinly is for, and it is the strongest argument for paying for it.

Copy trading and tax: a CSV problem versus a public key

Where your copy trading happens decides how painful the tax import is. On a centralised venue, your copy-trading history is a vendor export, and Koinly's board is full of exports that did not parse: "Blofin CSV: Copy trading file is not recognized (unknown file)" (opened 20 February 2025, since completed), "BingX CSV: Copy trading data is imported incorrectly", "OKX CSV: Copy trading imported as spot trades", "ByBit API: Copy-trading PNLs are not imported". Each of those was eventually fixed, and each was a filing season someone spent reconciling by hand. If you are weighing venues, our comparison of copy trading platforms and the Bybit copy trading and Binance copy trading breakdowns cover the custody side of the same question.

On-chain copy trading inverts the problem. With decentralized copy trading, the mirrored trades execute from your own non-custodial wallet, so there is no vendor file to parse and no venue-specific importer to break — you paste your public key and Koinly reads the chain. uwuu works this way: you keep custody, the copy key signs the swaps, and the record of what you did is the same public ledger anybody can audit on the verified leaderboard. Our fee is performance-based, so you pay only when a copied trade profits, and that fee lands on-chain like everything else. The wider field of tools that trade this way is covered in our best Solana trading bot pillar.

The flipside is the one this article has been circling. Copying an active trader means inheriting their trade frequency, and therefore their ledger-line count. Before you follow a wallet doing 1,375 swaps a month, price what that does to your tax tooling — not just to your position sizing.

Is Koinly safe and legitimate?

Koinly is a mainstream, long-established product, and the integrations it uses are read-only. Blockchain wallets are added with a public receive address and exchanges with API keys, and the company states that no private keys are needed. That is the correct architecture for a tax tool: it can read your history and it cannot move your funds. Our guides on cold wallet storage cover the other half of that threat model.

What we can verify about the commercial side: plans are one-time purchases valid for 10 years, there is a 7-day no-questions refund before a report is generated, payment is by card or in BTC, ETH, DAI or USDC, and Koinly says it is self-funded with no outside investors. What we cannot verify from the outside is calculation accuracy on a specific portfolio — which is, not coincidentally, what the top Google result for the brand is about. Search "koinly" today and the first organic result is a Reddit thread titled "How reliable is Koinly?" with 46 answers. The product is not in doubt; the hand-checking burden on complex portfolios is the live debate.

The most useful honesty signal is structural. A company that publishes 1,436 open API and CSV issues under its own domain is making its defect list searchable by prospects. Very few vendors in this category do that.

Who Koinly fits, and who should look elsewhere

Koinly fits you if you hold more than you trade, use a handful of exchanges and wallets, and want forms rather than a project. At 100 to 1,000 transactions a year the pricing is fair, the Solana import works from a public key with no exports, and the one-time purchase beats a subscription.

Think harder if you are a high-frequency Solana trader. Three specific reasons, all from Koinly's own documentation: the billable count is derived from blockchain components rather than logical trades, the account-wide limit means a heavy 2026 can lock a finished 2025 report, and exceeding a cap stops calculation entirely rather than degrading. None of those are deal-breakers. All of them are things you want to know before the week your return is due.

The right move for anyone trading on Solana at volume is to import everything on the free plan first — it accepts 10,000 transactions with no payment — then work through spam tagging and merges, read your billable count off the Plans page, and only then decide what you are buying. Koinly built that preview deliberately, and using it is the difference between a $99 year and a four-figure one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Koinly free?

Partly. The free plan imports up to 10,000 transactions, tracks your portfolio and shows your full gains preview, but it cannot generate or download a tax report. Reports require a paid plan for the relevant tax year, starting at $49.

How much does Koinly cost in 2026?

The pricing page published $49 per tax year for 100 transactions, $99 for 1,000, and from $199 for 3,000 or more when we checked on 2 November 2026. The Pro tier covering 10,000 transactions is documented in the help centre but its price is not shown on the pricing page, and extra transactions are sold in blocks of 1,000 on Pro only.

What counts as a transaction in Koinly?

Koinly defines it as any deposit, withdrawal or trade added to your account. Transactions you delete, most dust rewards and anything tagged as spam do not count toward your plan limit, and related transactions that Koinly merges count as one. The billable number on your Plans page is usually much lower than the number imported.

Does Koinly support Solana?

Yes. You add a Solana wallet with your public receive address and Koinly imports SOL, SPL tokens, NFTs and most DeFi activity automatically, including Jupiter swaps, Raydium and Orca liquidity, Meteora DAMM2 and DLMM, and compressed NFTs. Jupiter Limit Orders V2, DCA V2 and perps need manual merging or tagging, which Koinly documents.

Is Koinly safe to use?

Koinly connects with read-only data: a public receive address for blockchains and API keys for exchanges, with no private keys required, so it cannot move your funds. Plans are one-time purchases with a 7-day refund before you generate a report. Accuracy on a complex on-chain portfolio still depends on your own review of the imported data.

Will Koinly handle a copy trading wallet on Solana?

It will read it like any other Solana wallet, because on-chain copy trading executes from your own non-custodial wallet and leaves a normal public trail. The thing to plan for is volume: mirroring an active trader inherits their trade frequency, and Koinly prices per transaction, so check your billable count on the free plan before you buy.
